From an Idea to Weights2Go
Every product starts with an idea.
For Weights2Go, that idea began in the mountains of Southern Spain.
Our founder and inventor, Tracy M-J, spent time hiking in the mountains with Bailey, a street dog she had found, thin, injured, and abandoned.
After taking some time away from regular exercise, Tracy wanted to regain her fitness, as well as, build strength, and, lose some weight.
Tracy realized that if she wanted to build her strength while hiking, she would need to carry a set of dumbbells, but, she also needed to carry sufficient water for herself and Bailey.
Carrying two full bottles of water, and attempting to carry two dumbbells, soon became a ‘juggling act,’ and, it just wasn’t convenient.
She began looking for something that could help her to do both.
Tracy searched for a pair of weighted sports water bottles that would combine hydration with resistance training, but she couldn’t find what she was looking for.
There were bottles on the market shaped like dumbbells, but they didn’t provide the combination of a genuine sports water bottle and weights, that she had envisioned. Plus, she knew that once her and Bailey had finished the water, she’d be carrying plastic, that was virtually weightless.
So instead of settling for something that wasn’t right, Tracy decided to invent the product she wished that she could buy.
And that was the beginning of Weights2Go.
What began as an idea gradually developed into a product designed around a simple concept;
‘Why carry a water bottle and separate weights when they can be combined?’
Weights2Go was designed as a pair of sports water bottles, incorporating removeable, and interchangeable,weights.
The aim was to create something practical for people who enjoy walking, hiking, running, and other fitness activities, while making it easier to combine hydration and resistance training all at once, zero juggling involved!
The product continued to evolve through design and development, with functionality, convenience and an active lifestyle at the heart of the process.
As the concept developed, so did the need to protect the design and innovation behind it.
Weights2Go has been awarded both Utility and Design Patents, reflecting the invention and design, that went into developing the product.
For Tracy, obtaining patent protection was an important milestone; turning an idea that began on a mountain, into something tangible and protected.
The original idea also led to another practical solution.
Tracy designed a purpose-built Weights2Go waist pack, allowing the bottles to be carried comfortably while keeping your hands free. Let’s face it, we don’t always want to be handling weights, especially when we’re climbing a very steep mountain!
The pack was also designed with room for everyday essentials such as your phone, keys, money, and other small items.
It became another part of the same idea, make being active, more convenient.
I love being outdoors, walking, exploring and staying active, often with my dogs by my side. Weights2Go grew from that active lifestyle, but, without any snow! It also came from the desire to make everyday movement, a little more purposeful, and, rewarding.
Creating a new physical product takes time, determination and investment.
The next major step for Weights2Go is bringing our Weighted Sports Bottles into the first full production run.
We’re currently working towards the tooling and manufacturing stage, and we’re excited about what’s ahead.
What began with a simple need while hiking in the mountains has grown into a patented product, designed to bring hydration and resistance strength training, together.
There is still a journey ahead, but this is only the beginning.
